The heart of universal design is aimed at meeting people’s needs and solving the inconveniences in their daily lives. In our aging society, we need to promote universal design, so that products will be more user-friendly for everyone.
The themes of the first three UD contests were food, cleanliness, and clothing. Many designers participated in these contests and have begun to promote the ideals behind universal design. This year’s theme is Kitchen Activity. The kitchen is a place where many accidents happen. The complicated art of cooking is often made more cumbersome by a lack of well-designed kitchen tools. This year’s theme is an opportunity to create items that can make the kitchen a more efficient and pleasant place.

The 4th Universal Design contest officially began on May 5.
